Network-Event Energetic Aperitivo: Just Arrived in Germany? Ways to handle significant challenges
Our popular networking event Energetic Aperitivo returned on 10.10.2024, this time with the motto “Just arrived in Germany? Ways to handle significant challenges”, hosted by Schneider Electric. The event was attended by over 60 participants, including many talents from the TU Campus EUREF and business partners such as Wilo, Inno2grid and Convex Energy. TU Berlin employees also took part in the event.
Tomorrow’s impact makers
Gabriele van Laar-Rossa, Head of University Relations at Schneider Electric, welcomed the new students and provided information about her company, which is represented in 100 countries, employs 168,000 people and achieved an annual turnover of 36 billion euros in 2023. The day before, at the MBA students’ Freshers’ Day at the EUREF Campus Berlin, she pointed out that they are on the lookout for the impact makers of tomorrow and are looking for new talent in the field of sustainability.
Valuable tips for your academic studies
Jeet Banerjee, Isabel Blumrich and Gabriele van Laar-Rossa from Schneider Electric, Dr. Massimo Moraglio from the TU Berlin and two of the working students, Diana Osma and Cheyenne Berger-Simoleit, who have been studying at the TU Campus EUREF since last year, gave the newcomers lots of valuable tips for their studies in their testimonials at the Energetic Aperitivo. They expressed a lot of empathy for the situation of the new Berliners, far away from home, in a foreign city. One of the first challenges is finding a place to stay.
Studying in English and still learning German
Being courageous helps when studying, which means asking questions if you don’t understand something; this is not only good for you, but also for those who are afraid to ask. The course is taught in the shared English language. This is a good way to get by in Berlin. But it also doesn’t hurt to get to grips with the German language. Isabel Blumrich recommends learning a German word every day. By the end of the course, that’s 540, which may seem a long way from the standard vocabulary of 75,000, but is enough to buy something to eat or ask for directions.
Networking
After the testimonials and questions from the students, there was still plenty of time to chat in the foyer of the Schneider Electric building over a delicious buffet. The successful concept of the Energetic Aperitivo is based on students getting to know each other better and forging contacts with the companies operating on campus – also with a view to future career prospects.
We would like to thank everyone involved for this great event and are already looking forward to the next Energetic Aperitivo!
